If I can remember correctly, opaque window moving cab be partly done in hardware, the ability to quickly copy large sections of video ram(BitBlt?) is provided by 2D accellrated graphic cards for years now, and XFree86 use this facility if available. In fact I just did a small test, on my P3 700 I can move this pixmap-themed KMail window quite smoothly. OTOH, On a P3 500 box with Win98, with an empty explorer window(about:blank), moving the window works, but the redraws are much longer and sharp movements leave noticeable ugly tails. Both computers use low-end I81x built-in graphic adapters, so either XFree has better drivers, or X11 with all of it's flaws can do better job sometimes:-) ------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
