I am under the impression that in general, preparing any kind of a Linux CD that truly enhances another CD requires a lot of work.As I explained in my original post (bothered to read it?), not at all. Preparing the CD, as I suggested, is more or less "tar -czf" of the entire filesystem.
As I mentioned, I'm not talking about adding an rpm or two, but making a single computer work really nice, and then duplicate it. I think the two-three hours that we spend on a newly installed system make a huge difference. And newbies don't get that.To clarify what I mean, I would say that almost the opposite of `truly enhances another CD' is just putting some newer minor versions or adding some Hebrew related packages as is.
In particular, if I was some kind of a manager for Haifux install party IMy comment is, that what I like about linux-il is that people here always find pleasant ways to say things.
would dismiss Eli's idea because in my opinion it is a waste of time. Can you comment on this point?
And I really think that my idea saves a lot of human time.
Eli? That's me, I suppose. As an aside, and in order to prevent useless wave handing, I think that Eli should post how he will put his idea into reality. By that I mean that he should choose his favorite mirror, be it Mandrake, RH, Debian and so on, and tell us with painful details what would he do next.
No painful details here, I'm afraid. Get a system work like a clockwork. Make it work with ADSL. Make it work with a cable modem. Make sure Hebrew works where it should work. Then duplicate the result. The difference in on-the-paper features is negligible. The difference in the actual performance is huge.
I hope this made my point clearer. And all vipe carers, please get Haifux' mailing list back up soon...!
Eli
