I tried to compile kernel 2.5.69 on debian unstable using gcc ver. 3.3 on a sony vaio with amd athlon xp 1500+ (1.3 GH) However I tried to strip the kernel of anything that looked unecessary, it keeps crashing on startup. something like a couple of line after the line for choosing the console resolution (if enabled) I get [<...>] where ... is some octal number (6 or 8 digits) printed in a row. Its to fast for me to see exactly on what line this happens or what exactly the number is. There is just a single space. This is quite early on since the power button sends the computer to sleep instead of just turning it off, which is disabled after acpi fires up. Also nothing gets loged to either /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog. I tried this with and without the acpi patch. Any ideas, is there a known problem with this gcc for compiling the 2.5 kernels?
