There are such players now, actually. I've been waiting for this for
years, and in the meantime I've even built my own box with Linux &
TV-out controlled by a remote control that mimics a DVD player and plays
DivX files... But now, there are DVD players for a few hundred dollars
that can play DivX. For instance:
