  You can probably do without it. There are adapters that have an RJ45
female on one end and any conventional DB on the other. That is, you can
get any one of RJ45F <-> DB{9,25}[MF]. More over, these adapters are
user configurable. The 8 wires that are connected to the RJ45 female end
are made with pins on their other end. You just plug that pin into the
DB connector where you want it.
  I believe that many network and cabling related stores have those
adapters on the shelf.

  As to your original problem, aren't those problems might point an
intruder?
