I've always understood this to be a massive security risk, particularly on a publicly visible machine. But that's what CA requires. Once we opened up ipchains/iptables for RPC (port 111), everything worked fine. I also seem to remember ARCServe producing no useful error messages until the entire backup was attempted. This was my first and only encounter to date with CA, and it was rather negative. Best of luck!
