Linux comes with a lot of <image format>to<other image format> utilities
at least on my Mandrake 9.0 installation.
Try pnmtops (while first using the GIMP and/or pngtopnm). I also have
imagetops. ;-) It seems to have come with kdelibs, but it's a shell script
that I can easily send to you.
