Hey people ! I'm talking to you from RH8, using the sm56 modem.
What I did, is quite simple, that's what I did: 1) I inserted my RH7.1 First Installation Disk 2) Changed into the RedHat/RPMS/ directory and 3) Installed : 'rpm kernel-2.4.2-2.i686.rpm --nodeps --force' 4) Now when I have two kernels, I have to define the new one in grub so I launched emacs and edited /etc/grub.conf (which is a simlink) and added this: title Red Hat Linux (2.4.2-2) root (hd0,1) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2 root=/dev/hda2 hdc=ide-scsi Then, reboot, choose the new entry... Install the SM56 RPM which one can get from motorola.com site, that's all! Afterward I checked the modem with 'minicom' (I had to configure it to use /dev/sm56 first) and saw that everything was fine (I was shocked to see that it works!) and just used insert-your-favourite-dialer-here to dial! Whoa, I'm still excited! -- <a href="http://www.rootshell.be/~eg">Eliran Gonen</a> ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
