Hmm, Performance in a word processor is not just about "typing". Try to stuff big tables and Excel worksheets into the doc (with graphs and all) and some other things. Word crawls like a baby. It's quite possible for a word processor to be a burdon on the system. While on the subject, there are also other "operations" that might take more time than the trivial "type interval".
