The coin has two sides. About the Ultimate Goal, if it is to beat MS, then I am very concerned. The Ultimate Goal had better be to help users get their jobs done, and be empowered to do whatever they want to. I don't think that unifying KDE and Gnome would do the trick. Users may need to do things in a different way to get their jobs done. Innovations may need to be made in UI design, and Linux had better have the infrastructure to support completely different styles of UI design. There are real support problems, in catering to various system configurations (Gnome, GTK, custom ones, ...). But instead of forcing everyone into the same mold (including those who have sound technical reasons to do otherwise - such as embedded Linux systems), it would be better to utilize the opportunity to develop new techniques for easing the support requirements (like what autoconf/automake et. al. did for installation under the various flavors of Unix). --- Omer WARNING TO SPAMMERS: at http://www.zak.co.il/spamwarning.html ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
