Why not to use a dongle on the Parallel Port?
If you are already using the Parallel Port, then consider adding a second
Parallel Port as a plug-in card (if your PC still has ISA slots).

The dongle shall force the right voltage levels on the Parallel Port's
pins.

The dongle will allow user-selected values to be read from the Parallel
Port, and you'll use a special program to read it (the program must be run
as root to be able to obtain I/O privileges).

There is no IGLU Cabal. Don't you see that all suspects deny their
membership in the (non-existent) IGLU Cabal?
