In the last couple of days my attempts to run apt-get update
yield much less stuff then I expected. I tried to verify this with another debian mirror, namely ftp.debian.org, and indeed got different results. Of course this might be due to the fact that the linux-il mirror and ftp.debian.org are not synchronized. Yet I believe there is a problem. Here is what I hope will be a lead: ** With the linux-il mirror, ftp> ls pub/mirrors/debian/dists/unstable 227 Entering Passive Mode (192,117,122,34,57,29). 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list lrwxrwxrwx 1 508 mirror 3 Nov 3 2001 pub/mirrors/debian/dists/unstable -> sid 226 Transfer complete. ftp> ls pub/mirrors/debian/dists/sid 227 Entering Passive Mode (192,117,122,34,57,60). 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list -rw-r--r-- 1 508 mirror 4840225 Jul 28 14:08 Contents-i386.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 508 mirror 26714 Jul 28 14:08 Release -rw-r--r-- 1 508 mirror 197 Jul 28 14:08 Release.gpg drwxrwsr-x 4 508 mirror 4096 Jan 11 2002 contrib drwxrwsr-x 5 508 mirror 4096 Jan 11 2002 main drwxrwsr-x 4 508 mirror 4096 Jan 11 2002 non-free 226 Transfer complete. ftp> ** With the other mirror, ftp> ls debian/dists/unstable 227 Entering Passive Mode (208,185,25,38,41,222) 150 Here comes the directory listing. -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4281651 Jul 29 19:52 Contents-alpha.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4173894 Jul 30 19:52 Contents-arm.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4062523 Jul 30 19:56 Contents-hppa.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 2824890 Jul 30 19:40 Contents-hurd-i386.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4862419 Jul 30 19:46 Contents-i386.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4185226 Jul 29 19:41 Contents-ia64.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4232642 Jul 29 19:46 Contents-m68k.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4009353 Jul 31 19:39 Contents-mips.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4006654 Jul 31 19:43 Contents-mipsel.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4335001 Jul 31 19:49 Contents-powerpc.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4184008 Jul 28 19:24 Contents-s390.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 2354798 Jul 28 19:21 Contents-sh.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 4199095 Jul 28 19:27 Contents-sparc.gz -rw-rw-r-- 1 1176 1176 26714 Jul 31 19:51 Release -rw-r--r-- 1 1176 1176 197 Jul 31 19:51 Release.gpg drwxrwsr-x 16 1176 1176 4096 Jan 11 2002 contrib drwxrwsr-x 17 1176 1176 4096 Jan 11 2002 main drwxrwsr-x 16 1176 1176 4096 Jan 11 2002 non-free 226 Directory send OK. ftp> I have checked and unstable is a soft link to sid on ftp.debian.org too. Therefor it is my guess that the fact that the linux-il mirror just shows the link while the other mirror follows it is the cause of my problems. Does this make sense? I probably could have work around this by having other entries in my configuration file. However I do believe that every Debian mirror should exhibit the same behavior. Besides, IIRC the linux-il mirror used to work the same as the other mirror not so long ago. -- Shaul Karl, [EMAIL PROTECTED] e t ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
