The point seems to be that ideas are not copyrightable, for a good reason. Otherwise, copying anything from anyone would be illegal, such as copying to mechanical form such inventions as the turtoise's shell and the bird's wings. This is, after all, only reimplementations of existing ideas.
Yes, if you wrote a program that is technically not difficult to code, but the idea behind it is revolutionary, you are not automatically protected from someone else reimplementing your idea, under whatever terms THEY see fit. If you don't like that, get a patent. The idea is that in order to get such a protection, you have to convince an impartial body that you have really really made a significant improvment on existing ideas. If your idea is not patentable, then you don't deserve to have the idea protected. Make sure you program is really really really good before releasing it, and other people trying to reimplement will have a very high barrier of entrance. That is the theory. In practice, patent law implementation is flawed, and it does not make sense to me to give the same period of protection to inventions belonging to markets with such diverse time to market and time for return on investment periods.
