It is legally possible to port GPLed software to Win32. In fact, this has happened with Cygnus and Friends. This is in a similar spirit to the fact that GPLed software can be run on proprietary UNIXes. The way I see it, RMS speaks only for himself. Some people agree with him or with some things he says; others, like me, usually don't. But there's a difference between a leader and a spokesperson.
