How about SYLK ?

I have historically found this to work across windoze/mac and
M$office/others very smoothly. It can contain cell formatting info so is
more flexible than CSV (and therefore more likely to be adopted). Is it
supported reasonably in Gnumeric and Soffice ?

Sample SYLK files available on demand via private mail.
