This has been discussed before, but since it doesn't work for me, maybe someone can suggest why.
On my MDK 8.1, I still have occaisional X freezes. I've tried the Magic SysRq key and it doesn't work. I decided to see if it works when he system is NOT frozen, and discovered that it doesn't. Here are the things I checked: 1 - the Mandrake documentation says the Magic SysRq is enabled by default 2 - /usr/share/doc/kernel-doc-2.4.8/sysrq.txt says to check that /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq contains 1 3 - sysrq.txt also says that Alt-SysRq should return a scancode of 0x54 on a standard PC keyboard. Since that's what I have, I didn't think this should be a problem, but when I tried "showkey -s", here's what the Alt-SysRq key gives me: 0x38 0x54 0xd4 0xb8 There is a 0x54 in there, but what about the rest of the scan codes? Could this be my problem? Can anyone running Mandrake tell me if the Magic key works for them?
