Hi,

My previous updates to new versions of Mandrake have always been problematical
or even diasasterous. The MDK installation is great, but for some reason, at
least in 7.2, 8.0 and 8.1, the upgrade has always caused me problems - loss of
personalized settings in many programs, loss of sound, unrecognized hardware
(that worked OK before), etc. On one occasion (I think it was 8.0) I ended up
deleting everything and re-intalling - lucky I had backups and was able to
later restore most of my personal stuff :-). But this is just too much of a
hassle.

So my question is, does it make sense to just update RPMs individually from the
8.2 CDs on my 8.1 system rather than doing a **re-install** or **update**? With
the exception of the kernel, this should work, but I'd like to hear opinions.

BTW - I never got Mandrake Update to work properly. Since I have an ADSL
connection, this might have been a good choice.
