Huh????? 1. kdebase-nsplugin has been modifed - up to kde 2.2.2 you could have run an nsplugin which would be sized up to 300x300, and it crashed a lot. Trust me - it has been changed, and it works very well now. Also the crossover plugin relation with the kde-nsplugin has been fixed. 2. QT is NOT as GTK as some of the people might think - it's MUCH much bigger (database support, printer support, and tons of stuff which is simply not inside GTK) - that why you need to update it - bugs do happend to such a beast, and they're being fixed. 3. Try to run Ximian gnome and update from 1.4.0 to 1.4.1 - the download touched more then 50% of the packages. Where do you get your info from? KDE & GNOME both are having fixes in the various packages. > kde3 port is easly done, but I not know the status of gnome2/gtk2 porting, > is it hard? there are many 3rd party application which use gtk (it is one > of the best lgpl toolkits available), and would like to know it they will > be ported to gtk 2 (linuxconf for example). LinuxConf is not part of GNOME 2 (or GNOME) - Ximian got a competing package called Ximian setup tools (not sure about the name), so I think it will take a long time before this happend. Of course - I encourage you to use WebMin ;) and the reason why redhat and > mandrake did not include gtk2/gnome2 in theire distributions is that both > of those distributions use gtk for configuration of the desktop, and this > will lead to problems. A gtk2 version is a higher version update (rh 8.0, > mdk 9.0). This is MHO. Correct. GNOME 2 will appear on both major versions (RH 8.0 which would appear around october) and Mandrake 9 (also at the same time frame). SuSE is not very commited to GNOME, so they probably will stick it to 8.1.
