Does evolution, or any other client for linux, supports synchronizing

Is ical about this? If so: is there any server that implements this
standard, or this is only peer-to-peer?

There is also Caldera's Volution

Both of which are not free (e.g: Am I guaranteed that I will not be locked
onto their clients?)
And they also cost quite a bit...

See above. There are good practical reasons why I rather work with free
software.
