Correct. I want to operate on text that is encoded in iso8859-8, but the text is 
logical.

What do you mean, that the toolkit will sense the locale, and thus my perl code 
will automatically be configured for rtl? Can I set the locale just for a single 
application?

You are right. I am trying to avoid learning a new language just for this 
project. OTOH, I may still opt to learn one, but that is beside the point.
