I just wanted to bring the list up to date - in case anyone else has this problem and needs help.
As I already wrote, Ilya and Tzafrir solved my Hebrew in Konsole problem. But I still couldn't send Hebrew SMS because of encoding problems (utf8 - iso8859-8). Nadav came to the rescue (off the list) and suggested I use xterm. I had a couple of problems with Hebrew fonts, but they were easily solved by reading the info on IGLU.
