Correct. Every time I receive a new worm I add a new rule to this filter (takes about 3 minutes of work), and I'm never bothered by this worm cluttering my inbox again. And it's not like I have to worry about hudreds of worms - my rule is only 15 lines, and takes care of all worms which are available today. No need to buy an anti-virus for me... Of course, I never claimed that such simplistic filtering can replace all functions of a good anti-virus. Here's my complete rule, in all it's splendor (ugliness, actually) Sorry, Omer, about continuing to spam this mailing list on this issue - but others keep bringing it up again and again... :0 BH: * 1^0 ^From: Hahaha <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * 1^0 ^WkUAAJp94CBoYyiCHKdIkoCQIAQsAagx * 1^0 ^cPBMe5fIi7VY6dQDhmNwVYFN8TufX1b1hYXVk * 1^0 ^lCQoAQAAA0ICPQCAAAB3J4PADIlCAomFAgAAg * 1^0 ^MHMvVnFfzA0iKKlVHXEKultarHMTOIu * 1^0 ^DECogHVOqAF0NYO9dBwAAAh0CseFdBwAAAEAAADGhW4 * 1^0 ^jLEQiU3XXgCAtRSJRelZAIDhQI1FyUwAgOH4hTUwuYt * 1^0 ^SRhHRweQ6vLzFseQzRCL3fNqnKKa5XpRgFdQgOIT * 1^0 ^If you are using another Operative System, please don't wait * 1^0 ^7q1lFnDi5hXsSYzuean5UNILiTpbS7xeP5 * 1^0 ^i0oMiUgMw2aBOgABdBRmgToBAXUnUOjb * 1^0 ^AAC4TWltZegPAAAAuA0KDQroBQAAAOl3AQAAYDk * 1^0 ^0pmCHtLuKw9NDEL34t8pD87MRy5N2bRcT * 1^0 ^Dnnl0545AVb0370FCZfsYllGNnyI9Ml3mOw98F3g * 1^0 ^Z0gSPTNEI2YAPiu7YYJW5q94cmMWly6hsWNpffE virus > Nadav, apparently your virus file was not a symlink to /dev/null - why? > Specifically to count the instances? With disks costing pennies per megabyte, A 'virus' file is equivalent to a /dev/null, with the added value of me being able to rectify mistakes (if I write a rule wrong) do statistics, perhaps later warn all the senders that they have viruses, or whatever. Not to mention that I now have a nice collection of viruses, so you wouldn't want to be my enemy :) The space this 'virus' file takes up over the /dev/null solution, around 2MB per day (on the bad days) is insignificant in the big scheme of things (and bzip2 compresses it to only 10%, if you want, or just delete it every couple of days). -- Nadav Har'El | Thursday, Dec 6 2001, 21 Kislev 5762 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |----------------------------------------- Phone: +972-53-245868, ICQ 13349191 |Spelling mistakes left in for people who http://nadav.harel.org.il |feel the need to correct others. ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
