This sounds a bit weird. The system tells you that smbfs is not
compiled into the kernel. On the other hand, you say it mounts NT just
fine, and it is just W2K that causes the error. Dunno... Is smbfs a
module? Maybe it somehow gets loaded when you mount NT, but not W2K?
