I am releasing a new version of SendSMS, 2.2. The new features include:
1) Hebrew is supported correctly on Pelephone (remember that since version
2.1, Hebrew was supported on Orange and Cellcom).
As several testers pointed out, Version 2.1 was capable of showing Hebrew,
but in "logical", reversed, order. It turned out that what I thought to be
an unnecessary "archaeological layer" in Pelephone's site turned out to be
exactly the layer that turned logical Hebrew to visual Hebrew (assuming,
apparently, a 12-character wide screen). This layer does nothing for English
messages. So In the new version I "apply" this layer only when the message
contains Hebrew (in the future, I could program the bidi stuff in Perl
instead of using that layer of their site).
To return to the old (broken) behavior of sendsms a visual-order message,
you can use the "-l" options to sendsms: Latin1 messages do not work
because it seems Pelephone (at least on Samsung phones) insists of rendering
the message with a Hebrew font.
I would like to thank Tomer Cohen who's been a big help testing the
various aspects of the Pelephone support.
2) Mirs Amigo (057) is supported, supposedly for both English and Hebrew.
Actually, I only "think" Mirs is supported. It seems like it is working,
and I even tested it, using a very apologetic message, to a random number I
found to be working. But I would like for someone with a real Mirs phone
to test it (or tell me their phone number and I will test it on them) -
for both English and Hebrew messages.
The new version can be found in

This version is twice as large as the version I had two weeks ago, but I
think it is worth it - the script now support ALL Israeli cellphone providers
(with the exception, perhaps, of the Palestinian 059 area code), and with
Hebrew/English working on all providers. Besides, more than half of the lines
are comments ;)
I think that now that all the providers are in, the next task would be all
the "convenience" features that Alon has been urging me to incorporate into
the script :)
