Hi folks,
See if you heard of this one. I have an Adaptec 29160LP adapter (uw-2
160). I connect to it an IBM 9GB uw2-160 10k rpm disk, internal. It
recognizes it, and all works well.
The adapter has an external connector (the new slim Mylex type). I have
a SCSI cable, approx 1m, one end the slim mylex type, the other end, 68
pin. I have an 68pin-to-centronix (the old big and roundish scsi
connector, also known as scsi-1) converter, connected to the 68pin end of
the cable.
Now, I have a chain, starting with a dds2 scsi tape, then a HP 9600si
external CDRW, and on the end of the chain, an Umax Astra 2400s scanner.
When I connect the chain to the adapter on the PC, it recognizes
everything, (tape at 6.67Mhz, CDRW at 10Mhz, and scanner as ASYNC), BUT,
the internal disk is detected suddenly at 40Mhz !!!, and it doesn't boot
anymore.
I played with this, by shutting down each of the external scsi devices
in its turn, but as long as the external cable is connected, the disk
remains at 40Mhz !!! When I finally disconnected the external cable, it
went back to normal. I also tried to change cables, and to swap the order
ot the devices, and such, but to no avail.
Does anyone know anything about this ? If not, I'll just throw in
another 2940 controller, and be done with it.
