By the way - this question has concerned me for some time - are there
RPMs of 2.4.4 *SPECIFIC* to the various distributions?

Description:

Each distribution inserts many patches and improvements into the standard
Linus' kernel. While it's a piece of cake to upgrade the special 2.4.3
kernel to the standard 2.4.4, you give up, by this step, all the special
features that are specific to the distribution, and sometimes there are
other packages in the distribution that prefer kernels with those
specific improvements.

Are there 2.4.4 kernels for RH/Mandrake ?
Where can they be downloaded from?

The question is important because the difference between 2.4.4 (plus the
latest AC patches which fix some broken things) and 2.4.3 are huge: Not
only the above problem (VMware), but also performance (dramatically
improved implementation of fork(), and zero-copy networking), and even
security (13 patches which were contributed by OpenWall for 2.2.19, and
ported to 2.4.4).

Thanks,
