Hi People, Over the last 2 months that I have moved from kernel 2.2.18 to 2.4 - I felt that compiling C++ stuff (I compile c++ stuff a lot - daily) the speed has been down by a half.. This machine has AMD K7 850 with 320MB RAM, so it's not the machine. Now it seems there was a problem with the garbage collector in the kernel. So everyone who uses kernel 2.4.x and compiles C++ stuff is urged to upgrade to kernel 2.4.3 it's available in IGLU's ftp server.
