Ive tried several programs and most of them Kcrash on the spot - a
few however do run - kwin runs, and so does kfind, kded knotify and a

Did you try my other advice - trash .kde (or just rename it, so that
you can check if it's this problem, and put it back it if it's not).
KDE crashed on me, too, and it was something it didn't like in one of
the settings files.
