Hi Oded   If I understood your problem, I had the same one with 2.0 and I used xdm to login (xdm login screen looks like it was taken from a mid 80's science fiction computers film - really cool :-) ). Any way, I just eneterd xdm (as root) and it started X, asked for user+pass and got me right into KDE. I read the thread about KDE2.1 pam problems and upgraded pam first thing. after I did that, and before starting to install KDE 2.1, I couldn't log in through kdm, though I could login in any other manner.
