I didn't change any, why should kdm crash ? do you think some package
trashed a configuration file or init script ? what should I look for ?

nope - got them all.

I did - and I also tried to login with gdm - the same thing : I get a
blank blue screen (actually - more like purple, not like BSOD ;-) and
nothing loads.
