Hello Shlomi
I'm sorry to hear that, mainly because the problems mdk made reminds me
Windows' bugs, and not Linux'.
First, running many things together _SHOULDN'T_ cause any problem, except
of slowing the computer!!! It's not windows with the blue screen of death!
I really wonder why it happened, maybe the kernel it uses has a bug ?
Linux isn't a desktop os but a server one, if I can define it like this..
It's supposed to handle _TONS_ of processes at the same time. Think of
huge servers, running lots of apache processes, while running an sql
server, a busy smtp server with mailing list, etc. I'm also sure that the
computer's owner can play some games while it's doing all these, and all
it'll cause is slowliness.
And one more thing - IT CAN NEVER CREATE BAD SECTORS! Bad sectors are
created from various physical events, and _NOT_ because of a heavy
harddisk load!!
About all the rpms stuff - That's why I hate rpms :) Installing from
source is da best in my opinion, except of a little problem with
uninstallation (You should keep the source in order to do 'make uninstall'
in the future).
Anyway.. Good luck with your Linux. And check your harddisk for bad
sectors.
Cya,
Oren.
