since your'e running mandrake, why don't you just install the 'imapd' rpm
(imap-4.7c2-4mdk.i586.rpm and imap-devel-4.7c2-4mdk.i586.rpm if you want to
develop with imap) from the distribution cd. The rpm is both a imap daemon
both also a pop3 daemon (ipop3d), with the rpm you don't "have" to configure
anything but /etc/host.{allow,deny} and enabling them (or just ipop3d) in
xinetd.

Hello!
I don't know why it happens, but people don't distinguish between SMTP to
POP3. Sendmail is SMTP . it's used for sending and receiving mail to and
from the _MAIL SERVER_.
Remote users can TAKE their mail remotely using pop3, which is a
completely different thing. That's indeed the port 110. you need a special
daemon for pop3, look for something in freshmeat. I use gnupop3d, which is
simple as hell but I'm afraid it's not too good, it doesn't even have a
configuration file..
