hi,
i tried to access the files both via konqueror and termial, localy and via
telnet, alnd also from windows via samba.

the files got there when that hd was under windows..i just mounted that
disk to linux.

as for the ls -la --show-control-chars :

[root@whatsup hebrew]# ls -la --show-control-chars
