a) It is common to begin signatures with '-- ': that way, automated
machinery can recognize signatures.
b) There is no reason to indicate in the body of the e-mail the data
or the mailer: both are available as standard (or semi-standard)
headers (Date: and X-Mailer: respectively)
c) There is no reason to delimit the end of the signature.
d) The Re[2]: is superfluous: anyone really interested in tracking
the reply level will have tracked the thread anyway.
Which brings me to
e) Make sure your mail agent puts up correct References: headers.
Incorrect references headers cause mail agents not be able to
use efficient algorithms to sort into threads. When you got to >1000
e-mails, O(n) vs. O(n^2) actually makes a difference.
Since I'm certain everyone here use free software to send e-mails, you
can fix these annoying bugs yourselves. If, by chance, you bought
proprietery software from a vendor who, instead of source code, gave
you some flimsy half-commitments to give you support, then complain
to them about them supplying you with low-quality software which
eschews well-accepted internet practices.
