strange problem i am having

as u see i use now widoze... can't install linux on my drive :-[ hell, and i thought i knew how to deal with installation... here's the specs: i use cuv4x asus board, seagate (some st84xxxxx model) 8.4gb hd [connected as slave to primary, the hd is jumpered to be a slave] ata66/33 ide controller   here's the bg: i tried to install: rh6.2,7.0, debian [potato], mandrake7.0->1 ....cd/bootdisk, then: slackware 7.1 (this is the only 1 that has a bootdisk called ata66.i , though it's beta) the partitioning was ok, but after that, during the creation of fstab in all of them i got a big page of mem dump:   "unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 80000000 current->tss.cr3=0101000,%cr3=0101000 *pde=000000000000 Ooops:0000 CPU:0 EIP:0010 EFLAGS:00010093"   then came eax., abx,...,ds's contents and then:   "Code: 8b 13 8b 5b 04 86 02 85 c7 74 f1 39 f3 74 0c 89 d0 e8 55 fa Aiee, killing interrrupt handler Kernel panic: attempted to kill the idle task In swapper task - not syncing"   seems like every time i try to actually use the hard disk for writing there's comes up some kind of problem...[hmm i'm a genious :-) ]   guys ... any ideas ??????? thanX
