I hope I'm not misleading. AFAIK, things goes like that: There are two pairs of cables used out of the eight in the RJ-45 jack your using. They are attached to pins 1+2 and 3+6. In regular connection, the wirings go like that: cable number function 1 I-ground 2 I-signal - 3 II-ground 6 II-signal In crossover connection things should look like this: cable number function 1 II-ground 2 II-signal - 3 I-ground 6 I-signal That's all there is!... :-) Hope it helps, not to mention - hope it's right... ;-) Boaz. פופוב יבגני wrote: > > I spent last evening trying to connect Mandrake laptop to any of my M$ boxes > using 10BaseT crossover cable. > I don't want to purchase a hub, and according to the theory everything > should be OK with such cable. > The cable is vanilla-classic 1------------3 > 2------------6 > 3------------1 > > 6------------2 > BUT: nothing works. > Link LEDs are not lighting. > Pings are timeouted at M$ and "destination host is unreachable" at linux > box. > All works terrific with my company's hub and straight cables. > I even started a sniffer at NT and saw that there were an ARP broadcast for > Linux box with no response. > Seems that cable is the problem, but I checked it 3 times. > > Anyway, maybe someone succeeded in the past to connect 2 boxes without a > hub, I would appreciate him to share the experience with me. > > =========================================================== > = Evgeny Popov ===================== [EMAIL PROTECTED] = > = Water Management SCADA Centers Developer = > = NT & Unix System Administrator = > = ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL SERVICES = > = SUBSIDIARY OF MEKOROT WATER CO.LTD = > > ================================================================= > To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with > the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command > echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign x Against HTML Mail / \ ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
