Hi Tizmo,
Dont walk, run, and get a hold of Stevens' Unix Network Programming,
volume 1. It has everything you've ever wanted to know about sockets
programming.
If you're in a hurry aor can't find the book, choo's site has good
tutorials on various subjects, including sockets.
You can find it here:
http://users.actcom.co.il/~choo/lupg/tutorials/
if you want to see the source for a full featured versatile network client
in action, I recommend hobbit's netcat. you can find it here:
http://www.l0pht.com/~weld/netcat/ (go to the bottom of the page, unix
netcat)
good luck
