lilo -u and you would not have lost your access to the linux partition.
as for "gnome wokrstation" defaults, it has nothing to do with lilo
locations, you can choose that manually at the end of the
install. unless you use the completly automatic install which I never
dare use. I hate it when computers think they know what I want.
