Why upgrade?
There are some pretty nice things there, but is it worth the troublw of an
upgrade (with loosing all your existing settings, and choosing all the
packages again, etc. And there is always the possiblity of formatting the
wrong partition in the installtion.
If there are some spesific things you like - try upgrading those packages
alone (BTW: don't use --nodep, andof-course - avoid --force).

One other problem:

Actually the fact that DrakFont copies all of your fonts is itself a
potential source of problems.
Does it allow you to select fonts manually?
If so - I would suggest sticking to tried-and-tested fonts. I have had no
problem with the following:
Arial (I'm not sure about Arial Backslanted)
Times New Roman (I'm not sure about Times New Roman Backslanted)
Courier New
Tahoma

It's been there since 6.1 .
Anyway - some other useful packages:
yudit - a unicode text editor. Also comes with a useful command-line
filter uniconv that converts between different 8bit and unicode encodings.
tetex-latex-heb - will save you untaring another tarball when installing
lyx (with hebrew support)
consoletools - finally with a correct hebrew keymap ("il").
Enjoy
