in theory there should not be a problem at all, one is a hardware
driver, the other one a filesystem. in practice I know that ReiserFS
does some neat tricks to optimize speed that take into account regular
disk seek times and caching, and it gets confused by virtual filesystems
that hide it, like RAIDs and LVM. I don't know what ATA-66 does other
than drive hardware, like if you use controller-level stripping (aka
RAID 0) as you get in some controllers this could be a problem.

but I'm not expert on hardware, I never installed ATA66 disks, let's let
the list answer that :-)
