well, gvim is vim + nice fonts. buttonbar is waste of real estate, but
fonts are great. There is a lot of difference between admins editor (vi is
the best IMHO) to C programmer's editor (gvim rocks ) to scheme
programmer's
one ({X,GNU}emacs). I had not had enough coding exp in other languages, the
point is not which editor looks better, the point is in which editor you
are ready to live for 50+ hours without a break, and pretend you are alive
after that.
I love gvim for nice toys it has. For example:

In any case I object the notion of "gvim is for wimps". Gvim is the best
editor for C programmers, IMHO (no need to flame, my entire group is
ready to bury me alive for such a herecy :)
