Remove the old modules directory from /lib/modules.
depmod -a to make sure you're ok.
Check if /lib/modules/preferred is symlinked to the
proper directory, RH tends to make a mess of it (it
gets symlinked each boot, don't bother fixing it
w-o fixing your init).
