Chyeck out if you're on ISAPNP state. If you're unable to use
depmod/modprobe/(/etc/conf/modules - in RH) successfully, or anyway you
prefer the quick solution, switch your card to manual configuration. get
apropriate IO and IRQ settings (IIRC, you shouldn't have problem with
that... :-) by figuring what avail' resources you have on the relevant
machine. try insmod 3c509 io=0x<your-io-address> (perhaps also add
irq=<your-irq>) just to check you found right parameters.
If it works, simply add all to :
/etc/lilo.conf: some append statment there (sorry, cannot recall the
syntax. man lilo.conf...). I think this is better than the following
way.
One of the rc files: lets say, rc.local: insmod 3c509 io=0x... irq=..
