Well Pavel,
I sat here at home from 7 PM to 5 AM to look for fonts, and downloaded
more then 100 fonts
I tried them on every resolution from 640x480 up to 1600x1200
Conclusion - most of them suck for a daily job. Some of the fonts don't
have all the characters like ! @ " # etc.. As someone wrote here - try
to write a letter to the bank - with Star trek font - you see what I
mean?
Nevertheless, I emailed all the authors requesting their premission to
include all of them into 1 big package (or several small packages) so we
can share them (or maybe send them to Redhat/mandrake/SuSE for
inclusion)
The fonts we need are not just for browsing. Sure - Eli's fonts are good
for Netscape, but these fonts are not good enough if you work a lot in
different resolutions and for a long period of time - and we need fonts
like David, Miriam, Aharoni, Frank-Rehul etc for working with hebrew in
text editors, word processors etc. in the future - and these fonts are
problematic.
Someone wrote me that people should copy their fonts from their Windows
installation - nice idea, but what if I have 2 pc's - one with Linux and
one with Windows? the Windows license forbid me to use any part of
windows with 1 license at 2 places at the same time. Another issue is if
you think a year or 2 ahead when Israeli software houses do port their
applications to Linux - then an avrage office will have Linux install,
not Windows install - and will not be able to get those fonts.
FYI.
