i'm trying to see how one could use a cellular phone (by cellecom) to
mediate between a computer (a laptop, and/or a desktop computer) that runs
linux, to the internet (via any ISP).
i talked to cellecom's representatives, and they say there are two
options:
1. buying a cellular modem, called 'merlin', that fits into laptops
(presumably a PCMCIA modem) and works at a 19.2kbps speed, with some
odd monthly 'fixed price', depending on expected ammount of downloaded
data per month.
2. using some device that is called 'CDTP' (or something similar...) -
i didn't fully understand how this is used, and as they said, this is
still done only as an experiment, and not sold in israel yet.
my question is - has any of you already done this (again, using cellecom's
service, NOT pelephone or orange)? does this merlin modem work under
linux? has anyone managed such a connection using some other device(es)?
unless there's some better alternative, i will try to get this so-called
'merlin' modem for a test drive and see if it works under linux or not.
thanks for any tips,
guy
