Shalom.
In the discussion during the Friday IGLU meeting it was decided, once again,
that the red tape and expanses associated with an amuta are greater than any
putative benefits it might bring.
It was agreed that special events, such as setting up booths in expos, will
be organized on an ad hoc basis as before. However in the future we must
start preperations at least 3 months ahead of time, and not at the last
moment. Bear this in mind when suggesting future activities.
Organizing lectures will also go on as before. We are going to move our
future monthly lectures to Tel Aviv University, however. There will be a new
poll about preferred times in our website shortly.
The main area where our our old methods are inadequate is the continuous
distribution of Linux CDs and souvenirs - for which there is an enormous
demand as we saw in IW2K. There are several possible solutions to this
problem:
- Continued cooperation with ERAN and ADI, through our website. We might try
to reach an agreement wherein a part of the profits will be earmarked for
use by us in future projects, and we will get administrative help from
them when necessary.
- Pushing commercial entities such as Actcom, Netvision etc. to distribute
Linux merchandise through their existing infrastructure. Encouraging the
setting up of an Israeli counterpart to Cheapbytes. See yourselves as
encouraged: Make Money Fast!
It was also suggested that we explore possible cooperation with ISOC. Is
Doron Shikmoni on this list?
