That's easy: simply share all the drives you want on the win98 machine, nad use any smbclient to access them, or maybe smbmount them on the linux machine. Although in light of the dd thread I would suggest you to grab tar/dd/whatever else you need fom sourceware.cygnus.com/cygwin and netcat from lopht and back it up the unix way...
