I have a Rage128 and it works just fine with 3.3.6... Maybe you were
using an older version? Or did you mean it is not accelarated. I
wouldn't say accelaration is critical for normal use (normal i.e. not
games).
Anyhow, Roman: regarding your problem, it would help us help you if
you gave us more accurate information regarding the errors. For
example, try quoting the exact error messages that you received (you
can save them to a file if you know how to, or just copy them
manually...) and what exactly you did type that cause each error. For
example, you say X managed to autodetect r128 (which is great! halfway
there) but then you say you tried to run X and it found no display --
what exactly did you run? xstart, xinit, xdm, X? And so on, it's just
hard for us to tell since we aren't there to actually see what's
wrong.
Also, what distribution are you using? Linux's latest version is 2.3
(better use 2.2 though which is the latest stable version) so I assume
you meant the distribution version -- was it Red Hat?
