Hi all.
We had a nice meeting Friday.
It was the biggest one in 4 years - more than 40 people showed up! and quite
a long one - almost 8 hours!
We discussed some important issues there - so for all of you who couldn't be
there, or had to leave early - here's a summery:
(There were supposed to be official noted regarding this - unfortunately I
managed loosing them. This is from my weak memory)
Eitan Shaefer was kind enough to chair a discussion regarding the upcoming
demoday and the Linux website.
1) We figured out that there are quite a bit of companies that support
Linux-il today - or plan to do so in the future: PF1, LinuxQA, Linuxnet,
nbase (and I think I'm forgetting one)
2) Demoday:
The demoday is a real challenge for us - we try to advertise over MS own
advertising. We have to do so while looking respectful and making really
good impression on the commercial world and the media.
- Eitan suggested to make a brochure with Microsoft's own words about linux
in the famous trial - they said some very kind words about us :-) Ira has
the relevant URL which he'll send to the list later.
- Eli suggested making a list of all companies that are willing to stand
behind Linux publicly, that will go ahead and state that they use linux and
love it
- Also we may need a list of all Linux support companies and individuals.
- We are planning to hand out CD's at the Demoday - but maybe not to
everyone and certainly attach detailed instructions and list of people
willing to help (for free or for money)
- We will not have laptops at the demo. only CD's and brochures.
3) Website: We all know what the state of the website is. Here's what we'll
do about it:
- At the first stage we want to create a community website - place we will
go to look at.
- We want the site to be dynamic and update often
- We need more than one person with permissions to edit the site. That way
we can insure updates and continuity
- The site will contain technical information, news, FAQ's, and software.
- We didn't decide which technology to use - but will test Zope and wikiwiki
- We didn't decide if the site will be in English and in Hebrew
- We decided to open a mailing list for website developers.
That's about it.
If I missed anything - people who were there should be able to add points.
Thanks,
Chen Shapira
Its late at night and the stars are deep
Thats OK I don't need sleep
