Well, I haven't heard about a drive being manufactured during the last
year (or even more) that wasn't mmc3 compliant.
The chance of a drive from HP not being mmc compliant is infinitesimally
small.
Why don't you just get the drive with, say, a 1-week return policy and
try it? That's certainly not too much to ask the dealer.
